Xplorazzi CG artist

You all might have come across the 3D designs and animations on our page, the man behind all this magic and endeavours is from xplorazzi, Raja Rai, a CG artist. (Cheering). A CG artist builds all sorts of products into 3D form. An artist possesses creativity and imagination, as Raja says Art passionates him the most, anywhere & anything artistic inspires him. As a kid, he had a knack for paintings & drawings and used to hang his art on the wall, when one day it struck him to devote his time and energy to art. He then did some courses and imbibed the skills but the real-time learning was from the first job he got as a 3D junior artist in a game studio. He believes inspiration can come from anything, be it early morning rays or a busy road, but what remains closest is the belief in his family’s eyes when no matter what, they say, it’s okay. As extraordinary as he sounds his interests are pretty simple, music has been dear to him, from pacing his day to calming him down. Coming from Shillong, He believes in small things giving high results, as what keeps him going in life is every day is a new day with new adventures and there is always learning from it.

Not only did we learn about this enchanting person but now we will read more about his take on 3D structures and modelling.

1.  How will you explain 3D models in laymen?

Just like how a traditional artist sculpts a statue or paints a picture in real life, a CG artist creates 3D models in the virtual environment. Anything and everything that we see around us and more can be made in a virtual world with the help of 3D graphics programs. One might even say, these programs are the tools and the virtual world is the canvas.

2.  In the ongoing battle of the retail industry to strive through the internet, how can 3D act as an aid to the sector?

1. 3D has varied advantages, for instance, planning, where multiple iterations can be done easily in a cost and time-effective way rather than manufacturing.

2. 3D gives a unique customer experience, clear and detailed depiction of the product gives a sense of surety to customers thus building loyalty and trust. Visual representation has risen satisfaction and easy analysis on models.

3. 3D designs are easily accessible to all forms of media in any part of the world.

4. 3D animations provide other useful information about the product thus clarifying several doubts beforehand.

3. As assumed by numerous local retailers that these technologies are too expensive and exhaustive for them and they can not deploy their resources to such. Is this technology not for mom-and-pop stores?

Maybe about 10 years back, it might not have been the right option for an average retailer, but luckily with the sea of new technology being catered to us every day, in this day and age, a 3D design can be way more cost and time effective than most of the traditional services.

4. How does 3D help bridge the gap between AR and VR?

A 3D model is a key ingredient for any AR or VR experience. AR being Augmented Reality is where a 3D model can be viewed and interacted within the real world. However, Virtual Reality VR is completely a virtual environment, where everything is composed of 3D elements/models. So with that being said, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that without the help of 3D models the AR and VR experience wouldn’t be possible.

5. How does successful use of 3D imaging require standardization? How can it be deployed?

With all being said, 3D imaging does have some level of complexity involved in it. For just one product it may have a series of multiple files interconnected for that perfect result. It needs to be visible from any angle and the viewer can be inches away or 10 feet away. And, especially in the commercial domain, a 3D design needs to be accurate not only in its basic physical form but also in a number of other factors, for instance, the textures of different types of materials it comprises and the way it interacts with virtual objects and lights around it.

There are hundreds of thousands of suppliers, and many are selling on dozens of marketplaces and retailer sites with different needs and requirements. However, if a company uses the standards generated by the working group, they`ll know that the 3D design will be accepted and will be usable.

Do you see long-term growth in the coalition of retail and 3D Tech sector?

Yes, definitely in fact we are already witnessing a great way how 3D technology has helped sectors not just in retail, but also in sectors like medical, architectural, entertainment and education. For instance, this technology has helped millions of students to visualize, learn and understand the very complex natures, from molecular science to actual representation of prehistoric creatures with the help of fossilized bones found in various parts around the world.

Another aspect of 3D which has been gaining massive popularity is 3D printing. Companies can now 3D print their product as a prototype before they manufacture the actual product. In countries like Singapore, Industry players, government agencies and even the armed forces have already started working in 3D printing technology for their respective needs.
